Delivered with dead-pan, Scottish grace

Less tweets, more decent performances

We knew, last weekend, when Jack Grealish tweeted a picture of himself in a Notts County jersey with the comment ‘Just want to be happy playing football again’ that there would be repercussions. And so it has proved.

Jack Grealish has been fined by Aston Villa for the tweet, suggesting at his unhappiness with the club. The teenage midfielder, who is mulling over an offer to train with Ireland’s senior team, was dropped down to play with Villa’s Under-21s at the turn of the year.

Asked about Grealish’s social media activities, Villa boss Paul Lambert remarked, ‘I think he should stay off tweeting. Not everyone needs to know that he’s boiling an egg.’

The Scot confirmed he had taken Grealish aside to speak with him about his tweet-happy activities. ‘I just wasn’t happy about it,’ he added.

Lambert also took time out to praise the training ground, and coaching, contributions of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given:
