Michael Owen’s view on John Stones is the most Michael Owen thing ever

Seriously Michael?

Really Michael?

Michael Owen has an interesting view on John Stones, and by interesting we mean difficult to fathom. Even by his standards.

The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker was on BT Sports’ show Fleth & Sav on Saturday morning and offered a defence of Stones.

The 21 year old centre-half made a costly error while playing for England against the Netherlands earlier this week, and has come under-fire at times from the Everton crowd for his propensity to attempt Cruyff-turns in his own penalty area.

Stones is undoubtedly a talented player, who has the potential to have a brilliant career at club and international level. However, at the moment, the 21 year old has been dropped from Everton’s starting XI.

So naturally Michael Owen thinks he could walk right into the Barcelona team, despite not being able to get a game for the team currently sitting 12th in the Premier League.Everton v Arsenal - Premier League“The best team I think at the moment in the world is Barcelona,” Owen said.

“Out of the England team, he could play for Barcelona. He’s probably the only player now that could go into that Barcelona team now and play for Barcelona.”

We doubt even Roberto Martinez, Stones’ manager and the most positive man in football, would make such a claim.
