From stamper to stampee.

There was a lot of foots being put down at Anfield this afternoon.

Steven Gerrard saw red after 38 seconds of substitute action and Martin Skrtel was lucky not to follow suit in injury time.

The Liverpool defender left some stud impressions on the calf of Manchester United goalkeeper David Gea during the final minutes of his side’s 2-1 home defeat.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers watched the incident back after he spoke to reporters but defended his player. He told Sky Sports, ‘The ball was played through but it probably looks worse in slow motion. It looks like he is trying to get a nick on the ball, to get a toe on it the ball went into the goalkeeper’s hands.

‘Martin is not that type of player, he was just a fraction out.’
