The Mario Götze-Mats Hummel transfer story no Liverpool or Manchester United fan wants to hear

This won't go down well

Both sides would happily welcome either player but disappointment is looming.

It felt like a matter of course that Mario Götze would be joining Liverpool this summer.

He has not had a fair shake at Bayern Munich, he is eager to find a club that will make him a permanent starter and he did most of his best work, at Borussia Dortmund, under Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp has spoken highly of Götze in recent weeks and Bayern appear resigned to the World Cup winner moving on.

Mats Hummels appears to be leaving his club this summer. The highly sought-after defender pledged to stay on at Borussia Dortmund, last summer, but has seen his club eliminated from Europe by Liverpool and fall short of Bayern in the Bundesliga despite a decent points return.

Hummels has given eight seasons to Dortmund but, it seems, his patience has worn out. He is looking for a club to take him to the next level.

Manchester United have made enquiries about Hummels in 2013, 2014 [twice] and again in 2015. Given the fact that Daley Blind has been make-shift centre back all season, Hummels would be an ideal fit for United.

However, and we’re ashamed that we have not spotted this before, Götze and Hummels may simply swap clubs.

Bild report that Bayern and Dortmund are perilously close to a swap deal that should satisfy both players. Götze could return to a club that cherishes him, and his playing style, while Hummels would pitch up at a club where he spent his formative years [he was in the Bayern youth set-up as a teenaer].

The newspaper claims Hummels has already made his transfer request while Dortmund may express a firm interest in Götze in the coming weeks.

After that, it will simply be a matter of double up the ‘ss’ and umlauting the vowels.
