Anthony Martial is overcoming a mid-season dip to prove to Manchester United supporters he can handle the hype. They have returned the favour.
The French striker has scored 10 goals and made three assists in 31 games [28 starts] since signing with United for £36m.
Martial’s fee may yet rise to £50m but neither he nor the United fans would have any issue if it meant his star continued its ascent.
Thus far, United fans have acclaimed the 20-year-old with a chant borrowed heavily from The White Stripes and formerly reserved for Robin van Persie.
‘Ohhhh Robin van Persie’ has been replaced with ‘Ohhhh Anthony Martial’. Until now, that is, and with a twist.
Manchester Evening News report that some intrepid United supporters have re-worked ‘Tom Hark’ by The Piranhas and are now calling Martial ‘Tony’. Here’s how it goes:
‘Tony Martial came from France
‘English press said he had no chance
’50 million down the drain
‘As Tony Martial scores again!’
Let’s see if we can hear the ditty from the United fans in the ‘away’ section at their Europa League clash with FC Midtjylland tonight.
