Manchester United fans get excited as Antoine Griezmann’s brother trolls Memphis Depay

This can only mean one thing.

Memphis Depay made his first appearance for Lyon on Sunday, since his €17m move from Manchester United.

The 22-year-old Dutch winger came-on as a second-half substitute for Mathieu Valbuena in the French side’s 3-1 victory over Marseille.

Depay only played the final 11 minutes.

However, he had only played 20 minutes in the Premier League for United this season before he joined Lyon, so this represents progress.

Depay never convinced at Old Trafford.

Signed from PSV Eindhoven for €34m in the summer of 2015, the Dutch winger was tipped for big things.

But he soon found himself out of the first-team and wasn’t even included in the squad for United’s FA Cup final victory over Crystal Palace last May.

Depay has become something of a by-word for failure at Old Trafford.

Considering he’s just 22 and could still become a very good player, it may be harsh to label him a flop just yet.

Yet, it is also inevitable that some would hold this view, especially on social media.

Antoine Griezmann’s brother appears to one of those with such a view and has taken a dig at Memphis.

Theo, the younger brother of the Atletico Madrid forward, tweeted this following Depay’s debut for Lyon:

Manchester United fans became very excited by the tweet.

The club have been linked with a €90m transfer for the French forward next summer and the rumours are only likely to intensify over the coming months.

United fans on Twitter were encouraged by Theo’s dig at the former United winger.

Is it a sign that United will sign Griezmann?

Almost certainly not.
