The beginning of the end, or is it just wishful thinking?
Monday night felt hugely significant for Manchester United, much more so than marginal defeats away from home to other top six teams. This 3-0 defeat to Tottenham at Old Trafford embodied everything wrong at the club: defensive fragility, a lack of a plan going forward and a miserable manager who refuses to accept reality.
In the build up to the game, United midfielder Fred said it that “must win” it if they were to stay in the title race, just three weeks into the season. So, now what?
Tottenham fans made their opinions heard as they taunted José Mourinho with ‘sacked in the morning’ chants, which seems like an inevitability now. It’s only a matter of time.
And it could be very soon. Many fans claim to have spotted a United director telling executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to ‘sack him’ after the third goal went in last night.
Woodward sat watching the final minutes, presumably brainstorming available managers. His companion at the game appears to not so subtly say in his ear: “sack him”, which receives no visible response from Woodward.

Now, we’re not lip reading experts. He may well have said “shame”, but given the context, we can safely assume it that the general consensus has it more or less bang on.
José’s days look numbered now, as United surely cannot afford to regress anymore under his leadership.
