Man City make €80million offer to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the Premier League

With Aguero seemingly on his way out, they could do a lot worse

Manchester City have reportedly presented Inter Milan an offer in the region of €80 million for striker Romelu Lukaku.

Pep Guardiola’s side have gradually built up some serious momentum this season, but neither Sergio Aguero nor Gabriel Jesus have been the focal point of the attack, scoring just two league goals between them this term.

Instead, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden have shared the responsibility of playing a central attacking role, with great success in recent weeks.

With Aguero’s contract expiring at the end of the season and Jesus yet to prove his worth as the long term number 9 at City, Guardiola is now seemingly looking to bolster his attacking options with a big signing in the form of Lukaku, who previously played for their local rivals Manchester United.

Italian journalist Fabio Santini, as quoted by by Area Napoli, said: “Attention: Manchester City have presented an offer to Inter equal to eighty million euros for Romelu Lukaku. The English club has proposed fifteen million euros a season to the Belgian forward. Currently he earns ten with the Nerazzurri.”

Guardiola has said he will not be looking to reinforce his attack in this January window. But that does not necessarily mean City won’t look to bring in another attacker in the summer.

Having struggled to hit his best form at United, Lukaku has enjoyed a sustained run of form at Inter under Antonio Conte, who had wanted to sign him during his time at Chelsea but had to settle for Alvaro Morata.

Should Inter fall short of the Serie A title again this season, one would presume Lukaku could be lured to the Etihad by the prospect of working under Guardiola and alongside his international teammate Kevin De Bruyne.

However, the Belgian’s contract at Inter runs until 2024 and there has been no indication that the San Siro giants are open to selling their star player.
