Manchester United might not wait until summer to give Jose Mourinho Louis van Gaal’s job.

In fact, it’s now being claimed that Ed Woodward has already made the call to the former Chelsea boss’s agent to see if he would be willing to take over from van Gaal before the end of this season.GettyImages-494069240According to The Mirror, the United executive vice-chairman has spoken to Jorge Mendes on Friday morning, following United’s Europa League defeat to FC Midtjylland.

Woodward, and the Glazer family, the club’s owners, were prepared to leave Van Gaal in charge until the end of the season, but Thursday’s shock defeat to the Danish champions has increased the pressure on the United manager.

Mourinho has admitted that he doesn’t know where his managerial future lies, although reports on Friday saw him rule out a return to Inter Milan.
