Louis van Gaal confirms one impending transfer but Man Utd targeting two more

Like waiting for a bus

There could be three new faces signed in time for Manchester United’s pre-season tour.

When we ran a story, on Friday, of Bastian Schweinsteiger’s move to United looking like a done deal, many of you scoffed. ‘I’ll wait until I see it on Sky Sports News’ was a popular response.

Well, SSN are running with reports of Schweinsteiger’s imminent move this morning. Those Sky sources may have been busy, like many, many others, watching the UFC 189 weigh-ins.

Schweinsteiger’s move to United is expected to be tied up in the coming days. Bild broke the story and, following some digging, The Guardian report the German international will cost £15m and earn €140,000 per week.

Bayern are set to greet 55,000 of their supporters at the Allianz Arena, today, before posing for their 2015/16 team photo.

The latest on Schweinsteiger’s whereabouts is that he was in London, last week, to cheer on his tennis-playing girlfriend Ana Ivanovic.

There was some speculation, once the Schweinsteiger news broke, that United would cool their interest in Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin.

Not so, according to The Guardian. They believe United will press on with that deal but in a stronger negotiating position. The current stand-off sees United’s £20m bid in the ether and the Saints holding out for £27m. A compromise – £24/25m – could be sealed before United head off on their pre-season tour.

One player that United boss Louis van Gaal did confirm the club was pursuing was Torino and Italy full-back Matteo Darmian.

The 25-year-old is in Manchester this weekend to complete a medical. Asked about Darmian, van Gaal commented, ‘Yes, I have read that in the papers. That is true.’
