Liverpool fans react to news that Everton have bid £65m for Virgil van Dijk

They're livid about the news.

Oh shiiiiiiiiiiit!

Liverpool fans have not had a happy time of it over the summer transfer window thus far. In fact that would be something of an understatement. As rival clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United get busy making major signings all over the shop, Jurgen Klopp has failed to add any notable recruits to his side.

Matters have not been helped the proactive nature of Everton’s business in the past few weeks. Barely a few days go by without the Toffees adding another name to their quickly improving roster. All the time, Liverpool only manage to piss off prospective sellers with their seeming player-first club-second wooing tactics – whether intended or not.

But the latest stories abound have taken Anfield frustration to a whole new level. Twitter is teaming with reports that Everton have lodged a £65m bid for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk – one of the Klopp’s number one targets. Liverpool apologised to Southampton for media reports linking them to the defender earlier in the summer.

Everton would not be able to offer Van Dijk Champions League football this season, but will be hoping their ambitious project as a whole can convince the player to join. That includes more quality purchases during this window and a state-of-the-art stadium in the longer-term. Plus the Dutchman enjoyed working under his compatriot Ronald Koeman at St Mary’s.

As you can imagine, the Blues are extremely excited about gazumping their city rivals:

As for Liverpool fans, they are understandably unimpressed. Only a few weeks ago they thought they had Van Dijk in the bag and now he could be wearing Everton blue come August. The shit could well and truly hit the fan if this one goes through…
