Liverpool fans are not happy with the referee for upcoming Manchester United game

He's not a popular choice...

Robert Redmond

The referee is never far from the headlines when Liverpool play Manchester United.

For a number of years, Howard Webb was public enemy number one for fans of the Merseyside club. The former referee was accused of awarding favourable decisions to United during numerous games against Liverpool, and was deeply unpopular amongst Liverpool fans.

Former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel was even fined £10,000 for criticising Webb on Twitter back in 2011.

Webb is retired now, and it’s still a week away from Liverpool’s game against United at Anfield, but some Liverpool fans aren’t happy with the choice of referee for the Premier League fixture.

Anthony Taylor, from Wythenshawe in Greater Manchester, will officiate the game, and some Liverpool fans aren’t happy that a man born in the city of their fieriest rivals will be referring the fixture next Monday at Anfield.

For what it’s worth, Taylor reportedly supports non-league Altrincham. Just trying telling these fans that.

However, as one Liverpool fan pointed out, Taylor hasn’t exactly been generous to United in the recent past.
