Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse for John Carver, Geordie managerial legend Alan Shearer sticks the boot in

A pair of managerial titans

This Newcastle collapse looks all too familiar to Alan Shearer

John Carver, the self-styled ‘best coach in the Premier League’ hasn’t exactly done much to live up to that title in his brief spell in charge of Newcastle, but while he hasn’t especially endeared himself to the Toon Army, at least he has given club legend Alan Shearer a reason to smile.

Carver has won just two games since been appointed Newcastle’s caretaker manager in January, and a run of just one point from ten games leaves the Magpies heading into the final game of the season with relegation from the Premier League still a possibility.

The collapse echoes that suffered when Newcastle last dropped out of the top flight, when record club goalscorer Alan Shearer was drafted in to save the club’s fortunes.

It didn’t go well for Shearer, who infamously won just one of his eight games in charge, but the new arrival to Twitter nonetheless jumped at the chance to pile on Carver’s misfortune.

We’re no fans of Pundit Shearer, but this Twitter Shearer seems like he has potential.
