Jose Mourinho says only one Manchester United player could leave before transfer deadline

"I am not happy if he leaves but he's the only possibility"

It doesn’t look as though there will be much transfer activity at Old Trafford on deadline day.

Manchester United are highly unlikely to sign any new players, and have already sold fringe members of the squad this month. Memphis Depay left for Lyon, and Morgan Schneiderlin signed for Everton.

Following Manchester United’s comfortable 4-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at Old Trafford in the FA Cup fourth round, Jose Mourinho was asked if any other members of his squad would leave before Tuesday’s deadline.

The United manager dismissed suggestions Wayne Rooney or Bastian Schweinsteiger were about to leave, but conceded Ashley Young, who wasn’t part of the squad for the win over Wigan, may be on his way out of Old Trafford.

“The only player I am aware of a possibility to leave is Ashley Young,” Mourinho said.

“He’s a player I’d like to keep and I am not happy if he leaves but he’s the only possibility. That’s why he didn’t play [against Wigan]. That’s why I gave chances to other people.”

Young has been linked with moves to West Brom, Watford and a club in the Chinese Super League. He joined United from Aston Villa in 2011.

Mourinho said Schweinsteiger could have more involvement in the second half of the season.

“Yeah, he is staying,” Mourinho said.

“He is going on the Europa League list because we open spaces with Depay and Schneiderlin having gone and we don’t have many options in midfield.”
