Jose Mourinho handles Antoine Griezmann question like an absolute pro

Get the finger out, Ed

Following Manchester United’s victory over Ajax in the Europa League final, Jose Mourinho was asked about the club’s transfer plans for the summer.

United will be in the Champions League next season, and a squad overhaul seems inevitable.

Several key positions need to be strengthened, players will leave and the club could break the world transfer record for the second consecutive summer if they manage to land Antoine Griezmann.

However, Mourinho wouldn’t be drawn on all that following Wednesday’s 2-0 win in Stockholm.

“Ed Woodward has my analysis, what I want,” the United manager said.

“So now it’s up to him, to the owners and for the people who work with him. So I’ll just wait. But I don’t care about football for now.”

Jose has been true to his word, and the first stop on his summer holidays has taken him to Monaco for the Formula 1 grand prix.

Yet, despite wishing to recharge his batteries, and take a step away from football for a while, Mourinho was inevitably asked about United’s transfer plans once again.

The former Chelsea boss was asked if United will sign Griezmann from Atletico Madrid this summer, but handled the question expertly. Mourinho once again put pressure on United’s executive vice-chairman.

“I have no idea (if the club will sign Griezmann), you have to ask Ed Woodward,” Mourinho said.

“He knows since March who I want, he knows everything… And now, it is for him to work.”

Mourinho went on to say he was happy with his first season at Old Trafford.
