Jon Walters looks ready to run through walls in his new Burnley jersey

Wouldn't put it past him

Patrick McCarry

The Ireland striker has lucked out with a few elements of his move to Turf Moor.

Jon Walters is now a Burnley player. After seven seasons with Stoke City, the 33-year-old is on the move and while the fee has been undisclosed, it will reportedly reach £3m if he hits appearance and performance targets.

Three elements have really worked in Walters’ favour after making the switch.

  • He will link up with Ireland teammates Jeff Hendrick, Robbie Brady, Stephen Ward and Kevin Long.
  • He gets the No.19 jersey without a fight after Lukas Jutkiewicz, the previous player in that number, moved to Birmigham in the middle of last season.
  • Burnley’s preseason kicks off in Ireland.

The stars have definitely aligned for the Merseysider. And as if that wasn’t enough, the official Burnley website is talking him up something fierce.

WALTERS WALTZES INTO TURF MOOR, their transfer story boasts and the 49-times capped Ireland star is described as a “hitman” who netted ‘double figures in four of his seven full seasons’ at Stoke.

But enough of that. You came here to see Walters in a Burnley jersey, looking fierce as hell.

Feast your eyes…

Not quite as charged up with the scarf but he’s already focusing on the season ahead.

Walters’ Burnley debut could come as early as next Friday, July 14, as The Clarets are taking on Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.
