Jamie Carragher backs former Premier League winner for Everton job

Frank de Boer might be among the favourites for the Everton job, but Jamie Carragher thinks another man would be ideal for the Toffees.

The boyhood Everton fan and former Liverpool captain thinks Roberto Mancini could be the perfect fit for the Merseyside club, who have parted ways with Roberto Martinez after a run of one win in 10 Premier League games.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, Carragher suggests Mancini’s Premier League experience and impressive work back in Italy could make him the ideal candidate.

‘He is a big name with a fine pedigree, who has done well with Inter Milan since leaving Manchester City and he would jump at the chance to work in England again,’ he writes.

Mancini took over at Internazionale in the middle of last season with the club languishing in mid-table.

After a period of stabilisation, he returned the 2010 Champions League winners to European competition after solidifying defensively.

He famously won the Premier League with Manchester City in 2012, and Carragher considers him a potentially better option than De Boer (‘unproven’), Ronald Koeman (‘would he see it as a bigger move?’), David Moyes (‘would Everton go back to what they had before?’) and Rafa Benitez (‘would fans accept him because of his Liverpool past?’).

Still, while Carragher’s assertion that Mancini would jump at the chance to return to the Premier League may be true, there is every chance that he will prefer a Europa League campaign with Inter to a job with an Everton side with no continental football for a sixth season out of seven.
