FAI investigating Ireland England video as "a matter of urgency"

The FAI have issued a statement regarding the video that was reportedly shown to the Irish men's football team before the friendly with England on Thursday.

The squad were shown a video as a motivation tool in the build-up to the clash which was reported by Daily Mail and described as "anti-English".

The video is said to be a three-minute piece, 2 and a half minutes of which consisted of old footage from Ireland v England games and the other 30 seconds providing brief historical context between the two nations.

In a statement on Thursday night, the FAI confirmed that they are looking into the matter:

'The Football Association of Ireland is aware of issues surrounding content shared with our Republic of Ireland senior men’s team ahead of the recent international friendly against England at Wembley Stadium.

'The FAI is already looking into this internally as a matter of urgency, in order to establish the facts. The FAI has no further comment to make at this time.'

Ireland lost the game 3-0.
