Euro 2016 heroes Iceland won’t be on FIFA 17 for an annoying reason

If not for that ridiculously-good Welsh run to the semi-finals, Iceland would have been the stand-alone underdog success story of Euro 2016.

This was their first major football tournament ever, yet Lars Lagerbäck's team - backed by their legion of clapping fans - won plenty of admirers over in France.

Having made it out of their group, Iceland subjected England to the most embarrassing defeat in their footballing history before eventually running out of steam in the quarter finals against hosts nation, France.

It was a memorable summer, but despite well and truly leaving their mark on the international stage, Iceland's national football team won't be appearing on Fifa 17.

Days from the game's release, a report in Icelandic publication Nutiminn explains that that its makers, EA Sports, were keen to have Iceland on the new game, but failed to reach an agreement over image rights with the nation's governing body.

Still, it's not all bad news. The new game will feature that legendary Viking/Icelandic Clap (call it what you will):

FIFA 17 is due to be released in the United Kingdom on September 29, two days after it's available across the pond in the US.
