Giovanni Trapattoni reckons Juventus should sell Paul Pogba because he’s not Lionel Messi

Well, he's not wrong

Robert Redmond

Giovanni Trapattoni never was a big fan of flair players

The former Republic of Ireland manager believes Juventus should cash-in on Paul Pogba as soon as possible and that, although he’s developed into a world class player, Pogba is expendable. Speaking to Tuttosport, Trap said: ‘Pogba’s a great player but he is not Lionel Messi, otherwise it would be a sacrilege to sell him’.

Pogba has attracted interest from a number of Europe’s richest clubs, including Manchester United and Real Madrid, and Trap believes that Juventus would be wise to sell the midfielder and use the funds to rebuild their squad.

‘For £75m it is better to sell him. You can then get three players from medium-to-high European clubs. To sell Pogba for £75m and then look for a direct replacement risks spending all the money on someone who is less strong.

‘It’s happened before at Juventus. But if you choose the replacements well, it’s not a problem.’

Typical Trap, always thinking about the strength of the collective over any individual talent. He also probably thinks Liverpool were right to sell Luis Suarez and replace him with Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Lazar Markovic eh?
