Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been linked with a move to Ipswich Town to take over the club’s first team following on from Mick McCathy’s departure from the club last month.
McCarthy left Ipswich after a 1–0 home win over Barnsley, four games before he was due to leave, and the club are now searching for a new manager for next season with Lampard among the favourites.
The England international retired from football in 2016 but has already acquired his UEFA A coaching license and has said that he would consider a move into management if he received the right opportunity.
“Well I’m doing my coaching badges at the moment. I’ve spent a lot of time at Chelsea this year, gaining hours of experience,” Lampard told Press Association Sport.
“I’ve already managed to get my A Licence in coaching. So yes, with the right opportunity and right timing for me, I’d really take a very close look at it.
“Because you do want to give back, show you can help try to develop players, and help them tactically and whether you can be a good man manager.”
St, Mirren manager Jack Ross is the prohibitive favourite to succeed McCarthy while Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst is also among the leading candidates.
