Not only are Germany not a good or a great team, they’re a poor side.

That’s the view of RTE pundit Eamon Dunphy, who claims the Republic of Ireland are capable of beating the world champions at the Aviva next month.

“I think we can beat Germany when they come here,” Dunphy said, after watching Ireland struggle to beat Georgia at the Aviva.

“I think the German team is poor. They have players who can’t get in Premier League teams. A lot of their best players have retired.

Germany strengthened their position at the top of Group D this evening, with a 3-2 victory over Scotland at Hampden Park, but were twice pegged back by the hosts.

While Ireland recorded a famous draw against the world champions last October, with a last minute John O’Shea equaliser.Germany v Argentina: 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil FinalDunphy says the Germans are vulnerable, but that Ireland must first believe they can get what would be a famous victory.

“We need to stop talking ourselves down,” Eamon continued.

“We have to believe that we can beat them when they come. We have to get rid of that defeatist mindset.”

“It is a mindset and we have to go out and win games.”
