Didi Hamann wants a ticket for the All-Ireland final replay, but the Liverpool legend can join the queue

Round two it is

We’ll have to wait a fortnight to see who will be crowned All-Ireland senior Football champions for 2016.

It looked like the Mayo curse would strike again as a pair of bizarre own-goals from Kevin McLoughlin and Colm Boyle gave Dublin the advantage early on, but the Connacht men held their nerve to earn a 2-9 to 0-15 draw and set up the sequel in Croker on Saturday, October 1st.

As one of the biggest televised events of the year, there were a lot of eyes on the action in the capital which, of course, means there were also a lot of surprising names voicing their approval of the game.

Liverpool legend and RTE soccer pundit Didi Hamann was tuning in and he appeared to be blown away by what he had seen. So much so that he announced he would be on the hunt for one of those little rectangle-shaped pieces of gold that would see him gain entrance to the replay.

Hamann wasn’t the only one who immediately wanted a ticket to part II of the final after seeing the first 70 plus minutes. As a result, the inevitable Pat Hickey gags came rolling in.

British golfer Lee Westwood also caught the game and was impressed with what he saw. Westy couldn’t get over the fact that after putting in such effort for the first game, both teams had to do it all again in a couple of weeks.

Whenever these high-profile matches go to a replay, you can expect a slew of jokes about the GAA seeing dollar euro signs. Rather than make you endure all the ‘cha-ching’ tweets, here’s a selection of the best of them.

Wait a minute… October 1st? Why does that date ring a bell?
