Danny Murphy really doesn’t want Liverpool to sign Shane Long

"No, no, no"

Does he have a point?

Shane Long has been linked with a move to Anfield for the past few days, and reports this morning claimed Liverpool had an £8 million bid rejected.

However, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy doesn’t think Jurgen Klopp should move for the Republic of Ireland striker, but should instead focus on getting the best out of Christian Benteke.

“Shane Long? Really?! No, no, no, no, no,” Murphy said this morning on talkSPORT.GettyImages-504801642

“There’s no point bringing in players who aren’t better than what you’ve already got. Would you suggest Long is a better player than Benteke? I don’t think so.”

“Liverpool have to play Benteke and use him better. The way Liverpool are playing at the moment isn’t really suited to what Benteke is good at…yet he’s still their top goalscorer. You have to play to his strengths.”

Klopp is reportedly interested in Long because he’d suit his side’s hard pressing style.

However, Murphy seems to think Liverpool would be better served by changing their style to suit one player they currently have, than sign someone to fit the manager’s preferred way of playing.
