Everton striker Romelu Lukakau had been heavily rumoured to be heading to Chelsea this summer – until yesterday, when multiple media outlets reported that he was actually on his way to Manchester United, for a cool £75 million.
Yet less than an hour later, it turned out those reports were “premature”.
Now, The Telegraph are reporting that Chelsea have matched Man United’s giant bid for the Belgian.
There is one key snag. The newspaper reports that Chelsea will not match the fees his agent Mino Raiola will get if he moves to United. Now it is effectively up to Lukaku himself as to which option he takes.
Chelsea reportedly believe he would rather return to them, but that means going against his agent.
This one ain’t over, folks.
The Belgian can just keep Paul Pogba company until his footballing future is all sorted out...
