We’ve heard of “the next Lionel Messi,” “the next Cristiano Ronaldo,” and “the next Zinedine Zidane,” over the years.

It’s always the flashy players who young, talented players get compared to.

But what about the workhorses?

Chelsea’s dressing room could be about to get a whole lot fierier with reports this morning that the Blues are interested in bringing “the next Roy Keane” to Stamford Bridge.

The Sun are reporting that the reigning Premier League champions are keen on a move for Athletic Bilbao’s versatile Spaniard Oscar De Marcos.

The report claims that Chelsea scouts were in attendance on Thursday night to watch De Marcos in action against Valencia in the Europa League and that the club are now considering a €25 million swoop for the 26-year-old who has drawn comparisons to the Manchester United legend.

De Marcos can play in a wide range of positions and has played at full back and winger this season for Bilbao but it’s understood that Chelsea see him as a replacement for Ramires who moved to Jiangsu Suning of the Chinese Super League in January.

The Blues are expected to make a number of personnel changes this summer after a thoroughly underwhelming season that sees them languishing in mid-table.

And De Marcos’ tireless game is believed to be an asset that they want to bring into their team once the transfer window opens.

Who will be his Patrick Vieira-style foil? We can’t wait to find out.
