"There was no mercy for the expensive legs of Carlitos"

Carlos Tevez has picked up an injury during a prison football match, according to reports in Argentina.

Tevez was in the maximum-security prison to visit his brother Juan Alberto Martinez, who was convicted of armed robbery in December 2010 and is serving a 16-year sentence. According to Clarin Sports, the Boca Juniors forward took part in a kickabout while in the prison and suffered a calf muscle tear during the match. He could be out of action for a month with the injury.

The report contains some fantastic details. Apparently, the 20-minute game was “nothing friendly” and “there was no mercy for the expensive legs of Carlitos.” Unfortunately, there are no images or footage of the match, and unsurprisingly Tevez’s club isn’t pleased that their most famous player picked up an injury at the prison.

The former Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus forward only returned to Argentine football back in January.

Tevez had spent seven months at Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua, where he was reportedly one of the world’s best-paid players. However, the 34-year-old described his time in China as a “holiday” and returned to Boca at the first available opportunity after playing just 20 times for Shanghai.

He has scored three goals in five games since re-joining the club, but now faces a race to be fit again before the end of the Argentine season, which concludes on May 13.
