Borussia Dortmund to change jersey after fans make valid complaint

Dortmund have been forced to make another subtle tweak to their shirt ahead of this week's game

Stories about football clubs having to change their shirts for one reason or another are all the rage at the moment. Borussia Dortmund have been through the self-enforced wringer these past few weeks because of it. Hot on the heels of Ajax having to make a slight adjustment to their Bob Marley-inspired away shirt the other week, Borussia Dortmund have announced that they will be tweaking this season's cup shirt ahead of their first home Champions League game this week. Dortmund's kits are made by Puma these days, and the German giants are one of several European clubs - including Manchester City - to adopt the... err, *interesting* template which sees the club's abbreviated name printed across its chest, just above the main shirt sponsor. The design of the shirt didn't go down at all well with supporters when it was first released, who complained about the lack of the club's badge. Uefa regulations stated that Dortmund needed the club crest on the shirt, and so a transparent logo was added in time for their Champions League opener against Besiktas in Turkey earlier this month. Though this satisfied Uefa, it was not enough to appease supporters, who made it known that the subtle change had been a little but too subtle. This prompted a rethink and Dortmund confirmed over the weekend that the club had contacted Europe's footballing authorities in response to the fans' feedback, requesting approval for a "colour-contrasting" version of the badge to be added. On Friday, it was confirmed that their request had been approved, meaning Dortmund will be wearing a more visible version of their badge when they kick off against Sporting this week. Related Links:
