It’s actually hard to argue with Michael Owen’s claim that Arsenal are “the most consistent team in the world”

When Michael Owen speaks, people listen.

Sadly for him, it’s usually just to try and find fault with the stuff he says, but still – they definitely do listen.

With this in mind, the retweet-hungry vultures must’ve been circling when Owen described Arsenal as “the most consistent team in the world” on BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show.

You what pal? Arsenal? The team that haven’t won a league title in over a decade? The Arsenal that are a constant source of Champions League last 16 disappointment? The Arsenal that always go to shit in the second half of a season? Consistent?

However, just before anyone had the time to start firing off piss-takey tweets or turning his quotes into some form of meme, Owen clarified what he’d meant by the seemingly complimentary assessment of Arsene Wenger’s side.

“Everyone says ‘we get to a stage and under-perform’ but Arsenal are just so consistent. They come third or fourth every year in the league.

“They get knocked out in the final 16 every year of the Champions League.

“They’re the same every year and they have been for 10-12 years, exactly the same. They beat all the rubbish teams in the Premier League or the group stage of the Champions League.

“As soon as it comes to Bayern Munich or Manchester United or Chelsea, they get beat. They’re so consistent, they’re a level below.”

You see, just because he’d called them “consistent”, that’d not to say he meant it in a good way.
