Michael Obafemi. Remember that name.
17-year-old Irish striker Michael Obafemi made his first appearance in the Premier League on Sunday in Southampton’s clash with Spurs.
Not only is the Ireland under-19 player highly rated by the Saints, but he became their second youngest player to ever play in the Premier League after Luke Shaw, when he replaced Italian striker Manolo Gabbiadini in the 82nd minute.
He’s also only the fifth player born in this millennium to have played in the Premier League.
Obafemi has impressed for Southampton’s under-18 side all season, scoring some class goals which you cans watch below.
The teenager is a tall, well-built attacker. He has pace to burn and is a cool finisher. In an era where Ireland aren’t too flushed with options up front, his emergence and development could be vital to our hopes over the next few years.
Here’s to hoping his development as a player continues progressing at its current rapid rate.
He has played at Under-17 level for Ireland in the past and is currently involved in our under-19 set-up.
