16-year-old Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu has been linked with a move to Manchester City.

The Hoops shotstopper made his debut earlier this season and played for the club’s U15s, U17s and U19s last year.

According to Paul Lennon of The Irish Daily Star, City will pay the Hoops an initial fee of €350,000 for Bazunu with the teenager set to sign a pre-contract agreement with Pep Guardiola’s side before officially signing in January.

Former Cork City midfielder Dave Barry said that Bazunu was an exceptional player but that he would like to see him stay in Ireland and complete his leaving certificate before leaving for England.

“This boy was unbelievable on the night. He was exceptional,” said Barry on Soccer Republic.

“There was 3,700 at the game so he wasn’t playing at an empty stadium – he was right in front of The Shed.

“For a 16-year-old, he’s doing his Leaving Cert, not this year, next year. I would like to see for his own career, stay here, play European football.”
