WATCH: Jeff Stelling gives Irish defender fitting nickname after he scores twice for new club

He's the son of a Kerry GAA legend

John Egan has settled in well at Brentford.

The Ireland defender, and son to former Kerry GAA great John Egan (Sr.), scored a brace for his new side to give them a 2-0 win over Ipswich at Griffin Park.

Egan, who arrived from Gillingham during the summer, rose like motor insurance prices to head home the first and showed striker’s instincts to turn home a rebound eight minutes later.

The 23-year-old’s goalscoring prowess even earned him a new nickname from Jeff Stelling on Soccer Saturday – Johnny on the Spot.

Egan will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of teammate Alan Judge and make it into the Irish senior squad soon. That should be no problem if he keeps registering clean sheets, goals and man of the match performances.
