Patrice Evra accuses Liverpool fans of lacking class hours before kick-off at Anfield

Evra revealed the letter he received in October 2019

Patrice Evra has accused Liverpool supporters of lacking ‘respect and class’ when sharing a letter sent to him on behalf of the club from former CEO, Peter Moore.

In the letter, dated October 2019, Moore apologises to Evra for the way in which Liverpool responded to the high-profile incident between the former Manchester United full-back and Luis Suarez. Suarez was banned for eight matches and issued with a fine by the FA for racially abusing Evra. Liverpool initially questioned the decision and their players wore warm-up T-shirts showing support for the Uruguayan prior to a Premier League game at Wigan.

‘As a club, we failed to live up to our own high standards of inclusivity, equality and fairness when confronted with your serious but wholly justified allegations eight years ago,’ the letter reads.

Moore left his role in the summer but Evra expressed his gratitude for receiving the letter from him, explaining that he wished Liverpool’s supporters treated him in the same way.

‘I wish the Liverpool fans had the same respect and class as you Peter Moore,’ the former France international said in a message posted on his social media channels.

It is the first time Evra has shared the letter from Liverpool, though did reveal he had received it last year. It comes just hours before United face Jurgen Klopp’s side in a league encounter at Anfield.
