With three Division One teams plunged into the first round of an open qualifier draw, the events in the Morning Ireland Studio of a May Monday morning were always going to be of interest.
While the narrative in the build-up to this year’s All-Ireland football championship has been focused exclusively upon the Super 8s, the provincial championships have shown they’re not dead yet.
With some heavyweights shipping blows in their respective provinces, the qualifiers are loaded with treachery. You’ve Mayo, seeking another long run in the qualifiers. You’ve Tyrone attempting to get back on their feet after a disappointing loss to Monaghan in Ulster and Kildare will attempt to save face after they suffered the shock of the weekend at the hands of Carlow.
But it’s all straight knockout. There is no safety net now, and here’s how the qualifier draw looks.
Seeing as it’s an open draw, Division 3 and 4 teams will have home advantage if they’re drawn against teams from Division Two or Division One.
All eyes were on Mayo, and they were drawn to play Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds.
These games will all be played on the weekend June 9/10, and they will be decided on the day. Fixture details will be provided by the CCCC on Tuesday.
