Is it better to win an All-Ireland with your club or your county? We have the answer

Well that's that

Darragh Culhane

club

What a year it has been for young Con O’Callaghan.

The Cuala man is just 21-years-old and achieved one of the greatest years in GAA.

It all started off on St.Patrick’s day when Cuala lifted the All-Ireland Club title, a team in which O’Callaghan was the star man.

He then went on to win an Under-21 title with Dublin and for good measure added the Sam Maguire to the collection.

But where do you rank them? Being the one club that stands tall among the hundreds as the best hurling team in the country and doing it with your close friends and family you came through the ranks with or is lifting the Sam Maguire in the Hogan Stand in front of 82,500 people the ultimate honour to bestow on someone.

There is no doubting that O’Callaghan’s victory with Dublin would have been more publicised and viewed by much more people but anyone in a GAA club can appreciate how special it would be to achieve what he did back in March.

The Dublin forward was speaking at the launch of Sky Sports GAA Grassroots on Thursday and gave his answer to the ultimate question: club or county?

“The club (All-Ireland title) is pretty special doing it with your cousins, your brothers, the lads you grew up with but the senior (All-Ireland title) probably hasn’t sunk in yet so I’ll be able to tell you in a couple of weeks time,” O’Callaghan said.

As Colm Cooper said when asked about if he’d have more passion playing for club or county he answered candidly:

“Possibly your club because they’re the guys you grew up with and went to school with and went all the way up so you’d probably be closer to them.”

Well there you have it, the signs are slightly leaning towards the club, we’ll just have to ask O’Callaghan again in a couple of weeks time.

Sky Sports announced it is partnering with the GAA on three major grassroots initiatives which will see the broadcaster invest a total of €3m over five years. Today’s announcement was made alongside the launch of The GAA Super Games Centres at GAA National Games Development Centre, Abbotstown; the first of the three grassroots initiatives that Sky Sports will support. Dublin player and newly crowned All Ireland champion Con O’Callaghan and Sky mentors Carla Rowe and Darran O’Sullivan were in attendance to announce Sky Sports’ new grassroots partnership with the GAA.
