Jack Grealish’s international future looks a little nearer to be cleared up after he spoke about a return to the Irish set-up tonight. A little.
The Aston Villa winger was honoured at the FAI’s annual prizegiving and shed a bit of light on his exile from the recent squads.
The winger is in Dublin for the FAI Three International Awards and he isn’t leaving empty-handed either having scooped the U21 Player of the Year trophy at the 25th presentation.
Grealish impressed for the U21s throughout 2014 but, after being invited into the senior squad, he is yet to commit his long-term future to the Republic.
Tonight’s recognition for his performances won’t do any harm though and the Birmingham-born player spoke with RTÉ about a potential return. In the future.
“I spoke to Noel [King] at the start of the year and I said I was going to take a year out of international football this year and try and concentrate on my club football,”he said.
“I’ve had a good year at Villa and then hopefully next year I’ll be back playing again for Ireland.”

Meanwhile, Jeff Hendrick and John O’Shea scooped the Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards respectively, the latter clinching his 100th cap along that journey.
