Daryl Horgan admits he'd have to consider a move to Newcastle if they came calling

When a club of Newcastle's stature comes calling, you have to answer the call at the very least.

Daryl Horgan is enjoying a whirlwind fortnight after retaining the league title with Dundalk, making Martin O'Neill's Republic of Ireland squad and finding the net in the Europa League all in a matter of days.

And now he can't seem to avoid links with Championship outfit Newcastle, who sit top of the table and reportedly remain very interested in procuring the services of the talented 24-year-old.

No concrete offer has been made for the Lilywhites star but when has that ever got in the way of a good transfer story?

There is no smoke without fire and Horgan has admitted that he wouldn't be able to ignore any approaches from a club like the Magpies if they were to make official moves to get the deal done.

Currently on international duty ahead of Ireland's World Cup Qualifier with Austria at the weekend, Horgan was asked about the transfer rumour and if there's any truth to the links.

“I don’t know, really," he is quoted as saying by Chronicle Live.

“To be honest with you, I try to stay out of it as much as I possibly can.

“Look, it’s very easy to say you’re interested; it’s very different to put at offer on the table and at the minute, there are no offers on the table.

“I’m a Dundalk player, I’m very happy at Dundalk but as I said, if an offer does come in from somewhere, I’d have to consider it, especially something like a massive club like Newcastle.”
