Startbox Community Development Team Visit Laurence O'Toole CBS, Seville Place, Dublin 1 12/12/2014 The Startbox Community Development Team is set to visit the students of five city centre Schools in Dublin today who have been partaking in the very successful Community Start Box Initiative which is an on-going partnership between the IABA and Dublin City Council. This unique programme represents an ideal way to first engage with amateur boxing through the communities of Dublin. 2,500 young people engage in StartBox each year with another 1,500 engaging in the Summer Aviva StartBox experience. Underpinning community structures and providing a new platform for people to engage with Ireland’s most successful Olympic sport. The Community Development team’s goal is to promote boxing and community activity, to encourage participation and to promote the values of sport and boxing in particular. The team headed by 1992 Olympic Champion Michael Carruth were accompanied on this whistle stop tour by Ireland’s Senior Elite Boxers and fellow Olympic medalists Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlon to show their appreciation to all who have been involved in the initiative.
