Eddie Hearn to meet up with Conor McGregor to try and bring Katie to Croke Park

Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will fight in Dublin on May 20 in an eagerly anticipated re-match.

Taylor defeated Serrano via a split decision in Madison Square Garden last April but the pair will go toe-to-toe again. Serrano defeated Erika Cruz in New York on Saturday night to confirm the re-match with Taylor, who is the undisputed lightweight champion of the world.

As things stand, the re-match is due to take place in the 3 Arena but, due to the input of Conor McGregor, there is still an outside chance that it could take place in Croke Park.

Talks had broken down between the national stadium and boxing promoters Matchroom over ‘security costs,’ but the Notorious has since tweeted to say that he will sponsor the event.

Eddie Hearn is the chairman of Matchroom and he spoke on Monday about the possibility of the fight taking place in Croke Park, and says that he plans to fly to Ireland to explore the options with Conor McGregor over the next few days.

“Conor is obviously a passionate Irish man who loves Katie Taylor, and wants to see her accomplish her dream, which is one to fight in Ireland and two, to potentially do it in Croke Park,” says Hearn.

“So we talked. He wanted the background, why were the costs so high, what could we do, was there an opportunity with Proper 12 as well.

“I think Conor’s main priority is to see history made in Ireland. So we went backwards and forwards, we’ll speak again this week. I may well fly to Ireland this week as well for a few meetings.

“Whatever happens, Katie Taylor’s next fight will be in Ireland.

“It’s very helpful to have a chat with the champ champ, to see what he could do to help. I said I could pop to Ireland this week to sit down and meet him, and talk about any way that it could happen,” he added.

“Katie will get her night, whether it’s in May or September but the priority is to make sure that Katie fights in Ireland next, and probably the one after. Maybe we end her career from here, in Ireland.”
