Sorry you were saying

The Sunday Game panel of Ciaran Whelan, Des Dolan and Des Cahill were left more than a bit bemused this evening when Shane Curran managed to include a political and religious reference in a discussion on the GAA championship structure. The former Roscommon goalkeeper confused all of Ireland when he stated that football could not exist in 20 years time and it might go the way of the 'Church and Fianna Fail' unless there is radical changes. He also managed to get a Nigel Pearson reference in too with an ostrich remark in during tonight's show. The discussion came in the wake of Kerry's massive 27-point win over Kildare and prompted this outburst from the man known as 'Cake'
(ShaneCurran) "I wonder as well have the ostriches their heads stuck in the sand and are they going to get it out of it? If we've learned anything from history, let's take Fianna Fail and the Catholic Church." (Des Cahill): "Shane, hang on, you're really losing me."  (SC): "We've got to look at it in a way here, I think in twenty years time we may not have a game if it keeps going the way it is. Football is now becoming a charge of the aristocracy I really do."  (DC): "What has that to do with the Church and Fianna Fail?" (SC): "I'll tell you why. If you look at fifty years ago the church ruled this country. If you look at 2007 Fianna Fail were top of the poll and you'd find most of them behind a poll."
The debate then moved on to getting money for weaker counties and how players in weaker counties are treated. It was all a bit mad and Twitter reacted accordingly with some inter-county players befuddled by 'Cake's' comments https://twitter.com/EamonMcGee/status/627947028992147456 https://twitter.com/Mike_Quirke/status/627947451735932928 https://twitter.com/BenBrosnan/status/627946266882871296 https://twitter.com/Luceydan/status/627946714633252864 https://twitter.com/Luceydan/status/627946714633252864 https://twitter.com/Dean_Rutherford/status/627946821663465472 https://twitter.com/debester/status/627947661077909504 https://twitter.com/domhnailconnor/status/627947857664954368 https://twitter.com/m_brosnan/status/627948693191266304 https://twitter.com/Jamwall7/status/627952265526145025 https://twitter.com/mlinehan1/status/627953793628545024 You can watch the full bizarre piece below https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXsup-n2dwY
