Some of the criticism has bordered on abuse, as if contending with the one-point loss to Dublin wasn't enough for the 26-year-old.

The Breaffy captain posted a heartfelt message on Monday evening, thanking the people of Mayo for their support and vowed to keep working towards the county's "ultimate goal."
