Two Irish internationals have donated more than €8,000 to sick Irish footballer Mark Farren

Great gestures for a great cause.

It was revealed last week that Derry City legend Mark Farren is in need of vital cancer treatment in Germany at a cost of as much as €30,000. In the hours that followed, Irish sports fans showed their class by donating in their droves to a dedicated page raising money to help fund his treatment. And the fund has received two enormous boosts in the last day, after Irish Internationals and former LOI stars Seamus Coleman and James McClean have contributed more than €8,000 between them. McClean, who played with Farren during his time with the Candystripes, donated £1,000 (around €1,400), while this evening Coleman gave a contribution of £5,000, which works out at almost €6,800. The £6,000 contributed by the pair has brought the total raised up to almost €26,500, just €3,500 short of the €30,000 originally targeted.
