Tributes pour in for former Ireland striker Ray Treacy

The Irish soccer community are mourning the loss of a true servant to the beautiful game.

Former Ireland international Ray Treacy passed away last night aged 68 after a short illness. Treacy won 42 caps for Ireland between 1966 and 1980 and played 18 years at club level where he represented teams such as West Bromwich Albion, Charlton Athletic, Swindon Town, Preston North End and League of Ireland outfits Shamrock Rovers and Drogheda United. He later went into management, taking charge of Shamrock Rovers where he brought them title success in 1994. Known as a brave striker, who overcame his relatively short 5' 9" stature to become a legitimate aerial threat with a penchant for finding the net.
