Premier League side move ahead of Celtic in the race to sign Shane Duffy

Either move seems like it would be good for Shane Duffy's career.

The Republic of Ireland central defender has been linked with a move to Celtic in recent weeks. Duffy has experienced an upturn in his career fortunes over the past year, playing regularly for Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, and forcing his way into Martin O'Neill's squad for Euro 2016, despite not featuring in the qualifying games. The 24-year-old made his first competitive start in Ireland's victory over Italy, and was unfortunately sent-off three days later in the team's exit to France in the last-16. However, according to The Daily Mail, Brendan Rodgers had seen enough to warrant making a £2m bid for the Derry defender, but a new report from The Scotsman suggest that Swansea City have moved ahead of Celtic in the race to sign Duffy. Either move, or indeed remaining with Blackburn and their Irish contingent of players, would be beneficial for Duffy at this stage of his career. However, with a number of weeks to go in the transfer window, and Celtic attempting to qualify for the Champions League, it could be a while before Duffy's transfer status is settled.
