Mick McCarthy takes the p**s out of Daryl Murphy and the hat-trick that ended his goal drought

Mick McCarthy is in understandably flying form after Ipswich's 5-2 victory at the weekend.

The Tractor Boys boss revealed what he said to striker Daryl Murphy who opened his season account in style by firing three past Rotherham goalkeeper Lee Camp on Saturday. "I said 'welcome back Murph, we don't want to see your sister again who's been playing in recent weeks'," McCarthy told BBC Radio Suffolk. "You can get away with that when he's scored a hat-trick - 'leave your sister at home and you come regularly'." The former Republic of Ireland manager sent Murphy on his merry way to Abbotstown with those words of encouragement ringing in his ears. Hopefully they will inspire Murphy to score his first international goal against Bosnia in the Euro 2016 play-off. Murphy finished as top scorer in the Championship last season but has struggled since the start of this campaign. McCarthy can afford to make jokes now that his front man has seemingly found his goalscoring touch again. And it certainly wouldn't be the worst sight to see him carry that eye for goal into the pair of play-offs against Bosnia.
