McClean's Premier League debut for West Brom certainly didn't go to plan.
The midlands club were second best in all departments against Manchester City, McClean was subbed off at half-time and the crowd appeared to boo their new signing's every touch of the ball during the 3-0 defeat.
While Sky Sports commentator Alan Parry referred to James McClean as "Northern Irishman from Londonderry", despite the fact that McClean is a Republic of Ireland international, and Derry council recently voting to drop "London" from the city's name.
The 26 year old will have better nights in football.

But McClean has suffered perhaps the greatest insult of all - only 0.2% of players have selected him in their Fantasy Football team.
